Join Us for a Journey of Faith and Learning Every Sunday
At Old Hickory Methodist Church… an independent Methodist Church, we believe that spiritual education is a cornerstone of a fulfilling Christian life. Led by our dedicated Pastor Jim Harris, our Sunday School program offers a rich and engaging environment where members of all ages can deepen their understanding of the Bible and strengthen their connection to their faith.
Following our enriching Sunday School session, we invite you to join us in our main Sanctuary for our Worship Service. Led by the spiritual guidance of our devoted pastor, this service is a time to come together in celebration of our faith and fellowship with God and each other.
A Church Based in History
In 1925, Reverend W.H. Saxon organized the first worship service for the new Methodist Church in Old Hickory at a packed YMCA room. With a growing congregation, they raised $30,000 through community efforts to construct the church building at 1216 Hadley Ave, dedicated in 1928. Over the years, expansions included educational annexes and upgrades like pews and stained glass windows, funded by donations and crafted by notable companies.
The church's unique features include recycled materials, such as columns from a Kentucky plantation and a chancel rail from a powder plant. Furnishings with history, like pulpit chairs from Vanderbilt and a pipe organ from Fisk University, highlight its heritage. Now listed on the National Historic Register, the church remains active, emphasizing discipleship and community, rooted in Christ’s command to love God and neighbor.
